In 2015, countries adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. The Goals interconnect and in order to leave no one behind, it ís important that we achieve each Goal and target by 2030.

mi apparel has chosen to represent Goal 12. Responsible Consumption & Production. This goal feels the most relevant for mi apparel to represent due to our current climate within our fashion industry to make it become a better, more ethical & sustainable industry for our people, our plant.

12. Responsible Consumption & Production

The targets of Goal 12 include using eco-friendly production methods and reducing the amount of waste. By 2030, national recycling rates should increase, as measured in tons of material recycled. Further, companies should adopt sustainable practices and publish sustainability reports.

Target 12.1 calls for the implementation of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production. This framework, adopted by member states at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, is a global commitment to accelerate the shift to sustainable consumption and production in developed and developing countries. In order to generate the collective impact necessary for such a shift, programs such as the One Planet Network have formed different implementation methods to help achieve Goal 12.

mi apparel has currently pledged with the Conscious Fashion Campaign movement. The Conscious Fashion Campaign is a call to action for brands, media and retail to commit to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 Agenda to achieve peace and prosperity for people and the planet. The initiative, supported by the United Nations Office for Partnerships, seeks engagement and collaboration among industry stakeholders to accelerate change towards a sustainable future for all. Together fashion can lead a future that leaves no one behind.

Goal 1: No Poverty is currently being achieved within mi apparel, as we have partnered with the Living Wage Foundation, an independent movement of businesses, organisations and people who believe a fair day’s work should mean a fair day’s pay. This makes us a recognised business as a Living Wage Employer, and mi apparel wouldn't have it any other way!

Here, mi apparel will be publicly making commitments towards these goals and showcasing the measurable outcomes from the actions we take to achieve the progress towards Sustainable Development Goal No.12. Responsible Consumption & Production.
